How did Max write his own comeback story?

Max is a successful entrepreneur who now owns one of the fastest-growing tech public relations agencies. The Max Borges Agency focuses purely on consumer tech products, has offices in Miami and San Francisco. But Max’s successes are a result of him clawing his way back from some really dark times in his life. After hitting rock bottom, Max decided he’d spend all his savings on a round-the-world trip to hopefully forget about all his failures. After coming back home, he was able to take on a bit of consulting work in marketing and PR. In the beginning, he took on anyone who would pay him including a minor league hockey team, a financial consultant, and a counter-terrorism company.  But this was short lived as he soon figured out the key to success.

2 is a conflict, 3 is a specialty

After listing out all of his happy, easy clients he realized that they were all in the consumer tech industry. That’s when the light turned on in his mind. He and the team worked really well with consumer tech companies! If he could specialize in consumer tech companies then he could stop working in the business and then work on the business to focus on growth. Even though focusing on one specialized sector meant that he had to turn down business, it ended up allowing him to scale in ways that he never imagined. Find out why Max is thankful that he had no PR or agency experience prior to starting his company.

What hurdles has he hit along the way?

Building a business is not easy, it’s a series of hurdles. But he has never thought of them as obstacles. He always saw these hurdles as just things he had to figure out to build and continue growing the business. The process of becoming successful requires overcoming hurdles every day. He recalls losing Alienware, his biggest client but instead of lamenting his loss, he worked hard to find clients to replace that revenue. The extra effort to replace that revenue paid off and the agency continued to grow that year. Find out how Max is able to stay so positive even when times are rough by listening to his story on this episode of Miami Creators.

Finding “The Sweet Spot”

It’s your job to create the story you’re going to tell. If you can figure out what you love to do, what you’re great at, and that there’s a market for… you will find success. That is your sweet spot to success.
