Balancing creative vision with the marketing goals of large corporations through visual language

Graphic Artists who work for brands always have to find a way to strike a balance between their original vision and the sales goals of the companies that pay them. When she works with clients, even large corporations, Cyn prefers to communicate with them on the phone to really be able to understand their goals. She thinks that she can get a clearer picture of what they are looking for by speaking with clients directly rather than through email. Cynthia has also learned how to say no to work that doesn’t suit her vision.

Have you discovered how to strike a balance between your creativity and business? Listen in to hear how Cynthia Lagos has learned to communicate with clients to find the right equilibrium.

What changes has she seen in social media?

“You think you are so unique but there are a lot of other weirdos just like you.” Cyn doesn’t say that in a disparaging way but to encourage you that it’s OK to be who you are and to bravely bring your unique talents and perspectives into the world. She feels that social media has opened all kinds of doors so that people from all walks of life can do exactly that..

Cyn has a hand in different realms of social media in Miami, you can’t see a big brand’s social media campaign and not see Cynthia involved in it somehow. This proximity to what the big brands are doing allows her an insider’s view of how social media is changing. She feels that even though it has been around for a while people and businesses are finally starting to see the power of social media. This medium has replaced radio and TV as a way not just to advertise but for brands to be able to connect with consumers.

But the connections go even further. Cyn has noticed that social media has opened a new level of respect for upcoming artists from the larger brands . These big brands like Adobe are able to give artists their time and are even offering mentorship. The Adobe Creative Residency is one example of how big brands can contribute to an artist’s development.

What is the Adobe Creative Residency?

The Adobe Creative Residency is a year-long artist residency program. It is an amazing opportunity for artistic and career development for which artists from a variety of disciplines can apply. This platform allows artists to fully commit to their own projects without the burden of figuring out how they will make ends meet.

In addition to a full year’s salary for the opportunity to work on her very own project, Cynthia  has received guidance from internal and external mentors. The Adobe Creative Residency has allowed her to give her best to her passion project which has allowed her vision to improve over time.

Cyn encourages artists to try out for the Adobe Creative Residency. Even though it is a highly competitive program with only 9 recipients out of 1800 applications, she feels that the rigorous interview process was helpful in itself. Do you think the Adobe Creative Residency program could help you? Listen to Cynthia’s first-hand experience with the program to learn more.
